Why Chemistry

“I’ve always enjoyed the hands-on experiences that I had in chemistry and loved it so much that I took two years of it in high school. In college, I decided to pursue a chemical engineering major and found it so interesting. It felt like a subject that would drive me to push my knowledge and I never grew tired of it. As such, I wanted to teach chemistry in a way that allowed my students to find the same passion for science that I found through chemistry.”

Professional Experience

Before beginning a career in education, Jason worked as a lab assistant at a pharmaceutical company.

Jason taught English, science, and a research-based foreign exchange class in the city Itami, in the Hyogo Prefecture of Japan for two years. He worked as an advisor to the English Speaking Society Club and taught them cultures from around the world while promoting their overall skills in English. Additionally, Jason was one of the founding teachers who built the curriculum for a government implemented program called the Super Global High School Program. In this program, faculty trained students to be global individuals who have the language, research, and cultural skills to thrive in the world. 

Jason tutored students in chemistry, physics, biology, and all levels of math for one year in San Diego. 

He will begin teaching at Menlo-Atherton High School during the 2020–2021 school year. 

Volunteer Experience

Jason previously mentored students with an interest in teaching English. During his time in Japan, he built a program that allowed high school students to teach English to elementary school students. He also was a core member and organizer of the Hyogo Science Coalition in Japan, which brought local professors, students, and teachers together to learn more about science and research.

Hobbies

Jason enjoys spending time in nature, especially hiking through new sights and places. He also enjoys traveling and likes to immerse himself in the local culture of the countries that he visits.
