We are teaching way more than our subject areas. We are teaching the next generation about their place and power in this world. The ways we listen to, speak to, include, celebrate, encourage, and know our students matters every day.”
Catherine’s Story
Teaching Discipline
Physics
Why Physics
Physics is math made tangible – we can see the equations and concepts at play in our bodies, in our actions, and in our surroundings daily.
Professional Experience
Catherine was pulled to the field of teaching while working with young students during her years studying Electrical Engineering at The University of New Hampshire. After graduating, she moved to Providence, RI to earn her M.A.T. from Brown University and begin her teaching career in 2021.
Catherine spent her first three years of teaching at 360 High School, a small and collaborative public school reimagining what high school can look like. There, she was inspired by amazing colleagues and grew a foundational teaching pedagogy focused on restorative and culturally responsive teaching practices. When 360 High School was closed in 2024, Catherine grew more passionate about urban education and in understanding the impact of policy decisions on communities, students, and families. Today, she works at Hope High School in Providence.
Catherine will begin her first year of teaching at 360 High School during the 2021–2022 school year.
Hobbies
Beyond being a teacher, Catherine is a writer. She often writes about teaching and some of her work has been featured in Kaleidoscope journal. In her spare time, she loves being outside long-distance running, skiing, hiking and exploring new places.
