When Tracy Schloemer began her undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan, she planned to study political science. This was a departure, since her course load in high school had been heavy on science classes. But Tracy wanted to make a tangible difference in people’s lives and believed a degree in the social sciences would bring her closer to that goal.
An organic chemistry class in college provided a revelation. A structured study group introduced her to a stimulating new learning environment in which she not only mastered the material but learned to think creatively. She went on to become a facilitator for the course and rapidly learned there was more to teaching than making sure her students grasp the concepts. The students who really succeeded in her class were those able to communicate their ideas to their peers.
Tracy attended Riverview Community High School and received her BS in chemistry from the University of Michigan. She wants to influence a younger generation of students by fostering intellectual curiosity and communications skills.
